So, any older, perhaps obscure JRPGs people still remember/play? By older, I mean before they were able to animate characters properly in 3D so we don't have to see those absurd melodramatic hand gestures (aka, Snow from FFXIII)... or bad voice acting for that matter. Sprite ones included.

Some notable ones I liked:

Bahamut Lagoon (never finished) - you can raise da dragons... and during one point in the game you're given a chance to eat dragon poo (and go crazy).

Seiken Densetsu 3 (or Secret of Mana 3) - It's... an ARPG. Yeah.

Legend of Dragoon (never finished) - I dunno why but the action presses that allow you to do more damage was addicting.

Earthbound - For some reason I absolutely loved the art design for this game; then again it might be because it looks like something I personally drew when I was in 3rd grade.

Feda - The Emblem of Justice. it's an amazing game. though rare, get it through a snes emulator.

Kudos for mentioning Legend of Dragoon. It's definitely one of the less appreciated RPGs.

OT: Treasure of the Rudras - Never released in the US, yet a very well-made JRPG from Square's heydays. I believe it was one of their final SNES games. It utilized an innovative magic system where you created spells using words found throughout the game. The strength and MP expense of the spells was determined by the specific words and, if I recall correctly, word order used.

Breath of Fire 2: It's not obscure, yes, but play it through an emulator. You can also find a re-translated version which keeps dialogue and such close to the Japanese version. On a side note, FFVI also has a re-translated ROM patch if you're interested.

Careful with the ROM talk guys.

Dragon Quest/Warrior series is always a good classic to give a play. Tough games but worth the time.

Secret of Mana is one of my top games....it's too bad that Square drove the mana series into the ground then proceeded to bludgeon it with a rusty shovel. Never really played Seiken Densetsu 3 so for me I currently view Seiken Densetsu 2 (Secret of Mana as the last good game of the series).

Secret of Evermore was like SoM-lite still quite fun though.

Turns out, using center BBcode makes triforcing really hard when used with text.

Yeah, Secret of Mana is still one of my favourite RPGs, the soundtrack was brilliant.

ROM's are 100% legal. as long as we dont start linking to ROM sites we should be fine to discuss ROMs.

ROMs aren't 100% legal. At most they're legal assuming you own the game and you call the ROM your personal backup. Even then it can vary country to country.

We touched upon this quite sometime ago in the rules:

Quote:
14 -Limited emulator chat is allowed. This extends to talking about emulators only. However, linking to any sort of emulator, bios or game files are not allowed.

As long as you don't say where you got the emulator stuff from that's fine by me :P.

Yeah, I agree, but there are some major sites that show games running on emulators to see how x ps2 games runs in hd *cough* kotaku and Eurogamer *cough* and they seem fine with it. So, as long as we aren't linking to any material that's fine.

of course emulation is legal, as well as factors example Ubuntu repositories includes a SNES emulator.

you have nothing to worry about, if any user does link to a ROM site, delete it. though i'm sure no member of this site would.

plus i have bought ROMS for my MAME emulator legally.
